Eminence has a formal National General Committee – known as the NGC, consisting of 33 Members. The NGC would guide the organization for making its Strategic Direction and can advise, suggest, and support the organization to achieve the stated vision, mission, and goal of the organization. The NGC has definite Terms of Reference and has the duration for 24 months, initially. More information on the committee, and its members can be found from the following section.

General Committee

Md. Latiful Bari was born on 02 February 1970. He is the son of Shamsuddin Ahmed. His spouse’s name is Fahmeeda Husna. He completed his Masters of Management. Though he is a Businessman, besides his business he has engaged in various social development activities. He has been working with many NGOs for last ten years. Right now he is supporting a few research works in the education sector of Bangladesh.

Dr. ABM Akhter Hamid is a Public Health Specialist working more than 30 years in the field of immunization, epidemiology, project design and management, monitoring and evaluation, cold chain, supply chain management, capacity building, policy development, communication and advocacy. Currently he is a free lance consultant and have working experience with WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, FAO and other national and international organizations. Dr. Hamid has working experience in more than twenty countries. Besides working for strengthening the immunization program and polio eradication program he worked in Sierra Leone as a WHO consultant to response on Ebola outbreak, he worked in South Sudan for cVDPV outbreak, he worked in Timor Leste for validation of TT elimination, worked with WHO to develop the NDVP for COID-19 in Bangladesh. He is a medical graduate and completed his masters in Epidemiology.

Munmun Akter

Mohammad Mushtuq Husain is a Strong healthcare service professional with a demonstrated history of working in the research industry. He is also an Adjunct Professor at North South University, an adviser at the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), and a Co-Investigator at icddr,b Dhaka. He has got his Master of Philosophy(MPhil) degree from the Institute of Nutrition & Food Science, University of Dhaka. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused in Nutritional Epidemiology from University of Cambridge, UK. His skills include Clinical Research, Medical Education, Epidemiology, Data Analysis, and Program Evaluation. One of his notable publications is “Evolving epidemiology of Nipah virus infection in Bangladesh: evidence from outbreaks during 2010-2011”. He is a member of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, Cambridge Graduate Students Union, and Dhaka University Central Student Union.

Prof. Dr. Wahida Khanam is a professor and & Head of the faculty of Pediatrics at Institute of Child and Mother Health (ICMH). Matuail, Dhaka. She is also in charge of Saleh Child Development and Disability Management Center (SCDDMC), ICMH. Before this position she was the Lecturer in Biochemistry and Pathology at University of Sciences and Technology (USTC), Chittagong. She has done her MBBS in 1989 and FCPS (Pediatrics) in 2000. Shirin Khanam is working as a Senior Assistant coordinator at Eminence. She has more than eight years of working experience in various areas of health and social care including epidemiology, statistical and information analysis, health training, health protection & promotion, Maternal and Child health & nutrition (MCHN). Shirin Khanam got her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Food & Nutrition from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her skills include meetings coordination with partner agencies, assistance in preparing, organizing, and editing written and visual information to be used for internal and external communication and information purposes, supporting the authority for developing/coordinating ongoing communications program for current and prospective donors. She has working experience with several research projects in national sphere.

Prof. Dr. Akhtar Hussain is a Professor of Global Health at Federal University of Ceara, Brazil. Previously he was working as a professor of faculty of medicine, Institute of Health and Society, Department of International Health, University of Oslo, Norway. Prof. Hussain is a life member of the IDF, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh and executive member of the Norwegian Medical advisory body for the Norwegian Diabetic Association. Prof. Hussain has his medical graduation from Bangladesh, and has done post-graduation (Master & Ph.Ds.) from Norway and the USA. He has also obtained advanced degrees in Public Health (MPH) and M.Phil. in Education Psychology in Norway from the University of Oslo. He was awarded with the ‘Bangladesh National Award in Diabetes and Endocrinology’.

Syed Monjurul Islam has been serving in different ministries/divisions and organizations of the Government of Bangladesh. Currently, he is working as the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Mr. Monjurul Islam started his civil service career by joining as Budget officer in the Ministry of Finance in 1984 and then served as Assistant Secretary/Sr. Assistant Secretary of Ministry of Food, Ministry of Commerce, Economic Relations Division. He served as the first Secretary(commercial) at Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, India from 1997 to 2003. He did his B.com (Hons.) in Finance from the University of Dhaka. He also did his MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of the same University. He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in ‘Development Planning Techniques’ from the Institute of Social Studies of Netherlands.

Dr. Md. Shamim Hayder Talukder has been leading the non-government organization Eminence Associates for Social Development since its inception in August 2003. Academically Dr. Md. Talukder has completed his medical graduation (MBBS) from Bangladesh followed by his Masters in Philosophy (MPhil) degree in International Community Health from Oslo University, Norway. Public health and clinical research are the key concern areas of his activities. He also has a keen interest in implementing community-based programs through different innovative ideas and approaches. As a dynamic leader, he extended his current position at the global level as the President of the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH).

Prof. Dr. Shah Monir Hossain has worked 33 years in government services and retired as Director-General of Health Service, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of Bangladesh. He is now working as a National Consultant in World Health Organization (WHO) in Bangladesh. Alongside, He is the Advisor of Bangladesh NCD Forum, a network under Eminence Associates for Social Development. Academically, he obtained graduation in Medicine (MBBS) and M.Phil (Pathology) from Dhaka University, Honorary FCPS (Histopathology) from Bangladesh College of Physician and Surgeons, Post Graduate certificate course in Pathology from the University of Edinburgh, UK. He was Senior National Advisor at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) in Bangladesh.

Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury is a pioneer phaco surgeon in Bangladesh who has introduced Phaco Surgery in Bangladesh. He is the Founder Chairman of Bangladesh Eye Hospital. He founded Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital, a non-profit eye hospital for the underprivileged. Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury completed his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College. He obtained his Fellowship in Ophthalmology in the year 1991 from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. He has done his post-graduate fellowship in Phaco Surgery at Rahgudeep Eye Clinic, Ahmadabad and LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. He has several publications and presentations to his credit at national and international forums. Dr. Chowdhury has also taken initiative to take the health services in Bangladesh at an international standard, by establishing Bangladesh Specialized Hospital. A multi-disciplinary hospital in Dhaka.

Md. Shamsul Alam Khan Chowdhury is a person with more than 30 years of working experience in the microfinance sector. He worked as the Head of Training at Shakti Foundation. Earlier this position, he was the Head of Program (Microfinance) at Shakti Foundation. He has completed the B. A (Hons.) in Economics and Master In Economics From University of Rajshahi. Before working at Shakti Foundation he worked a long period of time at different Leading Management Positions at Grameen Bank, among them; Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Grameen in the UK, Project Director (PD) at Grameen Carso, Mexico, General Manager at Grameen Trust, Project Director (PD) at Diyarbakir, Turkey are notable.

Dina Farhana is a public health professional from a nutrition background. She graduated in Nutrition and Food Science from INFC (Institute of Nutrition and Food Science), University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She worked for Eminence for more than a decade and devoting her to a leadership role in managing projects and programs, advocacy, capacity building, and research with a particular interest in maternal, child health, and nutrition. She is focused and committed to achieving national nutrition targets and enthusiastic to put her effort into the overall development of the country.

Dr. Muhammod Abdus Sabur is an Adjunct Professor at North South University and Dhaka University. Earlier he was working as a Senior Health Advisor for UNDP in its Bangladesh project titled as Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Facility. He was the Country Representative of Water Aid Bangladesh and was in the position of the Health and Population Sector Manager at UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) in Bangladesh. He was the sector Coordinator for Health and Population at Care Bangladesh. He has done his MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College in 1981, and master of Community Health (MCommH) from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, England in 1989. He has worked as a Consultant for many national and international organizations.

Dr. Pranab Kumar Panday is a Professor at the Department of Public Administration, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He was a Senior Fulbright Fellow at the Department of Development Sociology, Cornell University, the USA in 2012. He completed his MSS degree in Public Administration from Rajshahi University and Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong. Professor Panday’s main areas of research include public policy, public administration, public sector management, governance, and gender studies. His major book publications include Actors and Outcomes, Women Empowerment in South Asia: NGO Interventions and Agency Building in Bangladesh, Strengthening Local Governance in Bangladesh: Reforms, Participation, and Accountability, etc.

Md. Mostafizur Rahman is working as a senior Program Implement Officer at Eminence. He completed his bachelor’s (Hons.) and Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Rajshahi. His interest areas are research, advocacy, and program implementation focusing mostly on development studies, non-communicable disease, maternal health and nutrition, childhood development. He has been engaged with comprehensive research activities for perception survey, baseline, monitoring, evaluation, strategic planning studies, as well as multiple advocacy and production of BCC materials since the start of work. It also included community outreach, training, capacity building, volunteering activities, and team building. Moreover, He Has knowledge and experience in community participation approaches in nutrition and health programs; and sensitivity to diversity issues such as working with women and stigmatized groups.

Md. Saddam Hossain is working as a senior Data Management Officer at Eminence. He completed his bachelor’s (Hons.) and Master’s degree in Sociology from University of Rajshahi. His interest areas are research, training, and program implementation focusing mostly on development studies, non-communicable disease, maternal health, and nutrition. Kazi Fayzus Salahin is working as a Senior Data Analyst at Eminence. Besides this position, he is also acting as a Project Implementation Officer, where he has been engaged in several research projects with Asian Development Bank (ADB), Global Research Innovations Team (GRIT), Washington D.C. USA, Spire Research and Consulting, and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Dhaka, Bangladesh. Mr. Salahin is a graduate and post-graduate of Statistics from University of Rajshahi. Moreover, he obtained an MBA degree from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology. His interests areas include data analysis, data management, team building, public health, research, education policy, nutrition, urban health, etc. Mr. Salahin is the co-author of several publications.

Md. Arif Hossain

Prof. Dr. Shahla Khatun is a Bangladeshi physician (gynecologist) and a National Professor. She has served as a professor and head of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. She was inducted as a National Professor by the government of Bangladesh in 2011. Shahla Khatun is acting as the Honorary President of the Governing Body of Bangladesh Institute of Child Health. She is also an Honorary Executive Director of the London Times News. During the caretaker government in Bangladesh in 2007, she provide medical care to the quarantined national politicians. She continues to serve patients equally, as well as speaking at various medical seminars and symposiums in the country and abroad. He is also involved in various social services and humanitarian activities.

Aktari Mamtaz is working a the Secretary at Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Before this position, she was the Additional Secretary at Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Later on she was at the position of Additional Secretary at Ministry of Public Administration, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. She has done her graduation from University of Dhaka. Aktari Mamataz has been involved with many social development activities in Bangladesh. With vast working experience in the public development field, she is also working as an advisor for some national and international organizations.

Ashok Madhdeb Roy is the Ex-Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh. He has been involved in the research and Social development sector for a long period of time.

Prof. Dr. Rashid-E-Mahbub is the chairman of the National Committee on Health Rights Movement. He is a former President of the Bangladesh Medical Association(BMA). He has been working to enhance the overall health condition of the people of Bangladesh by establishing their Health Rights. Has been engaged with many Civil Society Organizations and working for the sake of the Health rights of mass people in Bangladesh.

Prof. Dr. Md. Aminul Haque Bhuyan is a Bangladeshi academic. He was the 9th Vice-chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. He is the former Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of Z.H. Sikder University of Science & Technology, Shariatpur, Bangladesh, and also the former faculty member of the University of Dhaka at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science. Prof. Bhuyan completed his master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Dhaka. He earned the MCN (Master of Community Nutrition ) degree from the University of Queensland, Australia. As a researcher, he has vast experience in Food and Nutrition ground.

Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah is the Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, and a prominent geopolitical analyst. He is also a professor of Public Administration at the University of Dhaka and the former Pro-vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). Prof. Kalimullah completed B. S S in 1980 and M.S.S in 1981 from the Department of Public Administration, University of Dhaka. Under Commonwealth Scholarship, he completed M. Soc. Sc in 1985 and obtained Ph. D in Development Administration in 1980 from the University of Birmingham. Prof. Kalimullah is the founder & Chairman of JANIPOP -Jatiya Nirbachon Parjobekkhon Parishad (National Election Observation Council). He is a globally and nationally recognized civil society member of Bangladesh.

Prof. Ava Hossain is a reputed Ophthalmologist of Bangladesh and the Asia Pacific Region. Prof. Hossain is now working as Director Cum Chief Consultant, OSB Eye Hospital, Dhaka. Her contribution to overcoming the challenges in preventing blindness is well recorded. She graduated from Dhaka University in 1976. She did her Fellowship in January 1985. She had her higher training from Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, Edinburgh, and also from the Institute of Clinical Ophthalmology, Japan. She is interested to work in the field of Cataract, Glaucoma, Vitreo-Retinal, and Ocular Trauma. She is a member of the Bangladesh National Council for Blind (BNCB). She is actively involved in the blindness prevention program both Nationally & Internationally.

Prof. Dr. ABM Abdullah is a Bangladeshi physician, academic, and the personal physician of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He was a professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. In 1978 he got the MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College. He got the MRCP degree from Royal College of Physicians in London. After obtaining MBBS, he joined as a doctor in Dhaka Medical College. Later on, After serving as the Professor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, he was appointed as the Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Personal Physician. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2016 by the Government of Bangladesh. He was given the Bangla Academy Honorary Fellowship.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mohiuddin is a Professior at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). He is a former Professor at the Department of Management, University of Dhaka. Dr. Mohiuddin completed his M.Com and Ph. D degrees from University of Dhaka. He completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management from Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). He has been involved in the teaching and Entrepreneurship Development area for many years. His major interest areas are; Management, Human Resource Management (HRM). Entrepreneurship Development and SME Management, etc. His contributions to the management of people and organizations along with the organizational training and teaching have made him an excellent Management professional.

Prof. Dr. Soofia Khatoon is a Professor Paediatrics at Centre for Woman and Child Health – CWCH. She is the former Head of the Department of Pediatrics at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital. Prof. Soofia has Studied at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital and got her MBBS in 1980. She got the FCPS degree from Bangladesh College of Physician & Surgeon in 1988. She got the Fellowship in Neonatology from Hospital for Sick Children, University of Edinburgh, U.K. 1991. She obtained her MHPEd (Master of Health Personnel Education) degree from University of New South Wales, Australia 2000. Besides her many publications and She has a vast working experience as a Pediatrics Doctor and also as a trainer.

Dr. Munir Ahmed is the Country Director of Orbis International Bangladesh. As a doctor with further training in tropical medicine and hygiene, management of public health, and social development, Munir began his career with a great launchpad from which to tackle health concerns. Having previously worked with UN agencies, local governments, and non-governmental organizations across Bangladesh and Afghanistan, in 2012, Munir directed his expertise towards fighting avoidable blindness. He has also been successful in influencing policy at the government level, advocating for the inclusion of childhood blindness, Retinopathy of Prematurity, Diabetic Retinopathy, Vision Centers, and Human Resources for Eye Health within the country’s National Eye Care Plan.

Dr. Rasheduzzaman Shah is working as a Child Health Advisor at the Department of Health and Nutrition, Save the Children – USA. His career goal is to improve program coverage and quality of health service delivery for comprehensive and sustainable improvement of maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) initiatives. His interests also are focused to develop national, regional, and global public health and research capacity as well as help translating research results into action and thus leading to facilitate policy advocacy. He has a wide range of working experience in the Maternal and Child-health area. His active and willing association gives an important contribution to the health and development sphere.

Dr. Mahfuzar Rahman is working as WASH Consultant at UNICEF, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is also appointed as Strategic Advisor at CIPRB (Centre for Injury Prevention and Research in Bangladesh). He is an established epidemiologist with a record of research extending over the last 20 years. Throughout his extensive public health career in the national and international arena, He has gathered substantial experience in designing, coordinating, and conducting large surveys, evaluating health and development programs, as well as monitoring outcomes employing longitudinal surveillance systems while focusing on equity. He has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 16 book chapters, served as an associate editor Section Editor of BMC Public Health.

Dr. Abu Jamil Faisel is a public health physician with more than 33 years of diverse experience with family planning, reproductive health, Essential Services Package delivery program, and improving quality of services in Bangladesh. Currently, he is working as the Country Representative of EngenderHealth Bangladesh. He also works as an Adjunct Faculty Member of the Population Sciences Department of the Dhaka University. He is a medical graduate with Masters in Public Health and a Diploma in Personnel Management. With his excellent leadership, he is now the President of the Public Health Association of Bangladesh, and a Member of three national-level technical committees constituted by MOHFW.

Dr. Farhad Ali Khan is working as an Epidemiology Director at AstraZeneca, Sweden. He achieved his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College. Later he obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Umeå University, Sweden, Master of Science (MSc) in Epidemiology from Erasmus University, Netherland, and Ph.D. in Epidemiology from Lund University, Sweden. Besides he got training in advanced epidemiology and pharmacovigilance from Harvard School of Public Health. For more than 20 years, he developed courses and taught Public Health and Epidemiology at different universities and worked as a Researcher at Lund University, Karolinska Institute, Sweden, and other academic institutions globally. Besides he worked in international organizations as an Epidemiology specialist.

Dr. Makhduma Nargis is the Vice Chairperson at the Community Clinic Health Support Trust, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Bangladesh. Earlier she was the Additional Secretary & Project Director at Revitalization of Community Health Care Initiatives in Bangladesh (RCHCIB), MoHFW. She led the operation of 13,232 community clinics (CC) and to ensure community participation, formation of 1 Community Management group and 3 Community Support groups for each CC. She was a resource person for GDG (Guideline Development Group) for CHW of the World Health Organization (2016-2018). She was the keynote speaker on service delivery through CC in rural Bangladesh in WHA side events (2014-2015).

Sahadat Hossain is a successful businessman and a very enthusiastic Social Worker. He comes from a very patriotic freedom fighter family. Being a successful entrepreneur and developer he is also doing his activity in the Education sector. He is the chairman of Kallyanpur Girls School and College, Kallyanpur, Dhaka.

Dr. Shahin Akter is a Public health and child health specialist with a quantitative background. She has over 20 years of experience in research, training, advocacy, and program implementation focusing mostly on public health, maternal health, child health, child development, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, urban health, and HIV/AIDS. Currently, she is working as a Technical Director at Eminence Associates for Social Development, of which she previously served as a Coordinator. She holds an MBBS degree from Dhaka University, a General Diploma in Demography from The Demographic Centre, Cairo, and an MSc in Demography and Health from University of London, UK. She is a member of Bangladesh SUN Civil Society Network for Promoting Nutrition (BCSNPN), International Epidemiological Association (IEA), American Society of Nutrition (ASN). She has been involved with many research, training, advocacy, module, and BCC materials development since the starting of her career.

SM Shajedul Haque is currently working as Research and Development Advisor at the Prasadha Pramuna Limbah Industry (PPLI) in Jakarta, Indonesia (An Environmental and Waste Management Company). Prior to that, he worked as Senior Associate Coordinator in Eminence, Bangladesh. Shajedul completed his MSS in Department of Public Administration, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He also achieved a Professional Diploma in Urban Environmental Management from the Swedish Institute of Public Administration (SIPU), Stockholm funded by SIDA. His working experiences and interests of work include Climate Change and Environment, Drilling Waste Management, and Solid Control.

Md khoorshid Alam is working as a junior audit officer at Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd. Before joining Biman he served at Opsonin Chemical Industry as an accounts executive. He has completed his graduation degree from Dhaka City College in 1991 and Master’s degree from Jagannath College and University Dhaka under National university in 1994. His interests areas include public health, social development, traveling, etc.

Md. Abdul Mottalib

Md. Golam Rabbani is currently teaching at the Department of Public Administration, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. His main interests include research, social policy (health, education and social protection), governance (central and local governance, and governance issues of NGOs), social and policy issues of environment and climate change, seasonal poverty, monitoring and evaluation, and early childhood development. Md. Rabbani has his Bachelor (Hons.) degree from Rajshahi University and Masters (Political Science) degree from Södertörn University, Stockholm, Sweden. He is the author of two books, and a number of research articles and book chapters that have come out in different international journals.

Shams El Arifeen is the first director of Centre for Child and Adolescent Health at ICDDR,B. Shams is also a professor at the James P. Grant School of Public Health at BRAC University in Bangladesh, where he teaches epidemiology. He has nearly 25 years of experience in child and neonatal health, health services and health systems research, including nine years in government health services, with a focus on health interventions for developing populations. Shams holds an MBBS and DrPH and is trained in medicine, public health, nutrition and epidemiology. Shams contributed to the 2003 Lancet Series on Child Survival and has published more than 140 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Nazme Sabina is Chief Executive of DevResonance Ltd, a development and management consulting in Dhaka. She was a senior national consultant at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of Bangladesh and provided technical support to World Bank, UNDP, WFP, and other agencies. She completed her MSS degree in Economics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and MSc in Economics from Royal Holloway, University of London. Ms. Sabina’s main areas of research include livelihoods, food security, health systems, social protection, gender, and equity. She is the author of the research publications ‘Identifying the impact of religious extremism on the inclusion of comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights education in the secondary and higher secondary education system in Bangladesh’; Local Governance and Decentralization in Bangladesh: Politics and Economics (co-author), etc.

Dr. Major (Retd) Zeena Salwa Dr. Zeena has been working at Square Hospital Ltd since 2010 as Pediatrician. She has completed her medical degree (MBBS) from Rangpur Medical College under Rajshahi University. She has post-graduation on Diploma in Child Health (DCH) from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and also completed her highest degree FCPS (Pediatrics) from Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS). She further received intensive clinical training in Pediatric Neurology from Dhaka Shishu Hospital and Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, India. She has participated in many national and international conferences, presented and published papers. Her continued interest is in Pediatric Neurology including Developmental Pediatrics along with general Pediatrics. She is a member of national and international Pediatric associations and Pediatric Neurology association as well.
