Introduction:

School for Social Development (SSD) is a community lead education program of Eminence Associates for Social Development that aspires to combine different aspects of the society in its fold of activities such as health service, education, nutrition, information technology, communication, entrepreneurship and other services etc. As educational institution is the most important tool for development, eminence prioritized education since its inception through providing child development activities named provatee in slums areas of Dhaka City. SSD will have multi-faceted academic and social activities alongside formal academic curriculum. SSD aims at developing at least hundreds of campuses in different areas of the country with same brand name, curriculum, technical support and technology. It is established with a philosophy to develop ideal citizens and leaders of the country by providing formal and non-formal education and value added environment to the children from their early childhood.

 

SSD Development History:

At present Bangladesh has more than 29% urban areas and 40% of them are slum areas with children from low to high economic class families living in these urban areas. Children in rural and urban areas are suffering from under nutrition and recently all health indicators show that overweight related problems is added in the health and demographic status with rapidly increasing trend of double burden of malnutrition. Recent data shows that one in five children in slums and one in four children of rich family in urban areas are underweight due to lack for proper feeding practice and lack of knowledge to prepare and choose nutrition rich foods and ensure proper child feeding practice with home made food. Considering all these social, knowledge and practice related problem, School for Social Development (SSD), the first campus for Social Development styled as William Arthur McLellan’s Institute for Social Development (WAM-ISD) heralded its journey about one year ago under the umbrella of Community Development Centre of ‘Eminence Associates for Social Development’ popularly known as “eminence” for the under privileged children of Bangladesh.The plan for resource mobilization is designed on Robin Hood Model or Cross Financing Model. The financial benefit from campus for children of well to do families will be utilized for the campus of the underprivileged children mostly from slum children. The extended program of WAM-ISD is now taking place with six campuses at Lalmatia, Tajmohol Road, Mohammadpur and Mirpur of Dhaka City and outside of Dhaka City at Sirajgonj and Sunamgonj districts with a vision to reach at five campuses in each district of Bangladesh followed by having at least one campus in each ward of city corporation areas.The vision is to ensure access to quality education for all social class of children through a cross-financing, donation, sponsorship and parents entrepreneurship development model. Education, tuition fees, child sponsorship, development fund arrangement, promoting and accepting all individual technical and financial support system is in-built in the process of resource mobilization for the education of the under privileged children in the SSD. School for Social Development–an initiative of eminence aims to provide quality education and ensure equal scope for better future to our children. The motto of this education program is “to create tomorrow’s leader for sustainable social development”.

SSD Academic Education:

SSD offers Cambridge International Examination Curriculum. The curriculum of SSD provides a high-quality international standard education for both target groups of children by experienced teachers from playgroup to standard five.SSD has developed and adopted own extra curriculum activities and events; it aims to deliver a holistic education program combining the core competencies of the national and the global - other developed countries’ curriculum.

SSD Operational Cost and Financing:

A cross financing model is designed to ensure the financing for the underprivileged children. Equal amount will be spent for privileged and underprivileged children campus to maintain equal education quality. Children from well to do families will pay their fees in full amount sand take active part to mobilize the society or their family members to support the education of underprivileged children. The benefits from the privileged student’s campus will be spent for campus of the underprivileged students. SSD Management will also explore to mobilize resources from international, national donors, partners and government resources. Moreover, Social Elites, and corporate houses at national and international level will also be approached to donate and take responsibility of sponsoring education of one or more children.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Implement, manage, evaluate and supervise effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school including instructional programs, extracurricular activities and discipline systems
  • Provide a very modern and supportive environment for its students and staff, encouraging all to aspire to develop their full potential.
  • Establish the annual master schedule for educational programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the school’s philosophy, mission statement and instructional goals Builds consensus and resolves conflict.
  • Supervise the educational programs of the school, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes (teaching, as duties allow) on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  •  Establish procedures for evaluation and selection of educational materials and equipment, approving all recommendations.
  • Evaluate existing programs and practices, curriculum content, and pilot
  • or experimental programs.
  • Monitor, evaluate, observe, counsel, and motivate staffs, teachers and students toward performances to attain the educational goals
  • Record keeping as required through the use of various logs, tracking records, computer programs, inter or intranet software or other programs

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Masters in English/ Social Sciences/Education (PhD will be preferred)
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience as a Principal/Vice principal at a reputed English Medium School in Dhaka
  • English Medium educational Background will be preferred
