Position : Chief Operating Officer

Type of Employment : Contractual (2 years Contract, extendable)

Job Summary:

The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for leading and managing a comprehensive array of services and programs of the organization. The COO will lead Unit/ Department Heads and all activities of projects, service delivery, business development, and contracts management.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Advisor, Chief Technical Officer and Business Development Team establishing short and long-term  goals for strategic activities.
  • Develop strategy and plan for achieving goals with an outline of partner organizations, donors; outreach and messaging strategies for each.
  • Working in partnership with the team to create the strategic five-year plan and implement new processes and approaches to achieve it.
  • Serve as the internal leader of the organization.
  • Coordinate the annual operations plan and budget.
  • Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization.
  • Provide for all team members a strong day-to-day leadership presence; bridge national and regional operations and support an open-door policy among all team members.
  • Lead and manage overall business development, raise funds and generate sufficient revenue to cover costs.
  • Lead a management team and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals.
  • Identify geographic growth opportunities and priorities.
  • Lead and control programs to increase key impact measurements, ensure proper correspondence with all partners.
  • Produce and implement a Balanced Scorecard metric throughout the organization to enhance performance of all team.
  • Direct the team to deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the vision a reality and tap into the power that each member of the team brings to this mission.
  • Lead a management team and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse, talented individuals.
  • Cultivate values within the organization, instill a human capital development and “coaching” culture and upgrade human resources functions.
  • Develop an accounting system that provides the organization with quick access to financial information and enables strategic budgeting.
  • Analyze the current technology infrastructure and scope out the next level of information technology and financial systems that support the growth of specific programs and the organization overall.
  • Development and implementation of Eminence’s Fundraising strategy.
  • Develop and grow Eminence’s individual donor base: identify high net worth individuals, customize their experience with organization and close deals.
  • Contribute to the assessment, research and design of funding proposals, concept note etc.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with all partners, including the funder, government counterparts, local organizations, and program partners.
  • Ensure strong partnerships with other stakeholders, by facilitating communication and exchange of lessons learned and good practices.
  • Participate in the Local/National/International policy level meeting as an ambassador of Eminence.
  • Ensure timely progress against schedules, achievement of deliverables, and quality of results.
  • Provide substantive inputs to the preparation of policy and procedures for important events (e.g. donor forums, international conferences, etc.).
  • Ensure timely production and submission of progress reports to Eminence/ Partners.

Requirements:

Education:

Master’s of Business Administration/ Social Science/ Project Management.

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in development sector among that 5 years in senior management.
  • Supervising project activities partnering with Donor, Partner organizations.
  • Experience working with the international development sector preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge in project management and frameworks, hands on experience in operations.
  • Good understanding of the social, economic, political and historical trends of the country.
  • Knowledge of the legislation, regulations and financial issues relating to fundraising preferred.
  • Sound understanding of the international programming in developing countries.
  • Knowledge of individuals, donors and networks making significant contributions in the global response of development.
  • Sound understanding of the funding landscape.

Skill:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and engage a wide range of funders and stakeholders.
  • Excellent managerial and organizational skills with the ability to deliver results.
  • Excellent skill in verbal and written communications in English particularly in preparing issue-based papers or reports.
  • Skills in training, process facilitation, strategic planning and partnership building.
